(TORONTO, ON) December 15, 2020 – The Media division of St. Joseph Communications (SJC) is pleased to announce that effective January 1, 2021, it will take over direct advertising sales for the print and digital properties SJC acquired from Rogers Sports & Media last year: Maclean’s, Chatelaine (English and French), HELLO! Canada, Today’s Parent, FLARE and Canadian Business. SJC already oversees advertising across its other owned brands: Toronto Life, FASHION, Ottawa Magazine, Weddingbells and Quill & Quire. The change marks the end of a sales representation agreement with Rogers Sports & Media.
“We’re excited to launch a new sales structure and expanded opportunities for advertisers to leverage Canada’s largest portfolio of print and digital magazine brands,” says Ken Hunt, President & Publisher of SJC Media. “Our trusted, award-winning titles offer a massive reach, influencing public opinion and consumer habits across Canada.”
The sales team of SJC Media’s growing stable of brands is led by Lynn Chambers, brought on board in early March of this year as Senior Vice President of Revenue to oversee the existing team, prepare for the expanded sales structure and to explore opportunities for revenue growth through traditional channels and brand extensions across the entire portfolio of brands.
Lynn brings a wealth of media expertise, having led and developed brand and growth strategies for prominent Canadian media properties with her prior roles at Corus Entertainment and TC Media as well as extensive experience in marketing on the clientside.
“Special interest media delivers loyal, engaged audiences beyond print and digital – connecting communities of interest and passions,” says Chambers. “The real potential is to grow these iconic Canadian brands into experiential brands that are shaping culture and finding creative ways for advertisers to leverage this powerful connection.”
In preparation to sell the new portfolio, SJC Media has made some new hires to bolster its sales team. Tracy Miller recently joined as Managing Director, Sales. Most recently, Tracy worked at Bookmark Content as the National Sales Director, managing all advertising sales for Air Canada Media and providing multi-platform sales solutions for clients. In addition, several new Account Executives have joined the team, including Kym Wyatt, Nicole Rosen, Stu Toner, Purvi Selvadia in Toronto; Ingrid Barfod in Montreal; and Renee Wong in Vancouver. Terry Smith also joins the team as SJC Media’s Director, Customer Success.
“This investment in sales, bringing on a wealth of experience, shows the commitment SJC Media is making in the future of these iconic publishing platforms,” says Hunt. “We’re also investing in our brands, with robust plans to re-imagine Canadian Business, for example. With this renewed energy, we’re thrilled to usher in a new era of Canada’s best stories, working with our partners at the exciting intersection of strong, trusted brands that matter to Canadians.”
The Rogers Elevate team, which sells integrated offerings spanning its TV, radio and digital properties, will continue to include SJC Media print and digital brands as part of its multi-platform solutions. In addition, Rogers will exclusively represent programmatic sales for the SJC Media brands in 2021 and beyond.
