As SJC marks its 70th anniversary, the company has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the 23rd consecutive year, including 17 years as a Platinum Club member.
The Platinum Club designation is reserved for companies that have maintained their winning status for seven or more years, recognizing strong performance, sound business practices and sustainable growth.
For a company spanning media, content creation and print, that longevity reflects how SJC has continued to evolve alongside a rapidly changing industry
"To become a Best Managed Platinum Club winner is nothing short of remarkable," says Ruby Williams, Partner & National Leader, M&A Advisory and Co-Leader, Canada's Best Managed Companies. "Their continued adaptability in an era of uncertainty sets the standard for how to overcome new barriers and demonstrate resiliency at the highest levels.”
Today's audiences are fragmented, advertising models have evolved and AI has changed how content is created and consumed. SJC's response has been to embrace new technology while staying deeply invested in what makes the work matter.
“This past year was another reminder of how important it is to keep adapting as our industry changes,” says Tony Gagliano, CEO, SJC. “What this continued recognition reflects, more than anything, is our team's ability to innovate while staying grounded in what we do best: reaching Canadians with content, stories and experiences that make their lives better.”
2025 was a year of creating new ways to serve both audiences and clients. On the media side, SJC expanded its brands through new ventures including the Chatelaine podcast, events from its Wonder division and continued award-winning journalism.
On the client side, SJC launched Content Factori™, an AI-powered workflow automation platform that transforms product data, brand rules and creative into channel-ready marketing assets at scale. SJC delivered award-winning branded content programs that leverage its iconic media properties, and helped retail clients modernize their marketing with mobile-first flyers and digital digests. Its print division continued to deliver for clients, building on the work the company was founded on 70 years ago.
"As SJC enters its eighth decade, we remain focused on investing in the future of storytelling, content innovation and audience engagement across every platform we serve,” says Gagliano.
