Expanding on the success of its Substack-style Group Chat newsletter, Chatelaine has launched a biweekly podcast, giving brands a new way to connect with engaged Canadian women through conversation-driven content.

Group Chat is hosted by editor-in-chief Maureen Halushak, and brings together Chatelaine editors and special guests for honest, wide-ranging conversations on all the topics, big and small, that matter to Canadian women—from menopause and weight bias to reality TV and home decor.

Chatelaine reaches a highly engaged audience of Canadian women in their late 20s and beyond—an influential demographic expected to control $4 trillion in assets by 2028. As one of Canada's most trusted and long-standing media brands, it has built a deep, authentic connection with women across generations, and Group Chat is a natural extension of that relationship.

Each themed episode opens with a 10-minute editorial roundtable on a specific subject, followed by a 20-minute interview with a notable Canadian woman who is an expert on the topic. Produced in both video and audio formats, the series meets audiences wherever they're listening or watching.

For SJC Media, the launch reflects the continued evolution of the Chatelaine brand.

"For legacy media brands, extensions are essential," says Chatelaine publisher Tobiasz Woroniecki. "They help us stay relevant and diversify revenue while staying true to our editorial mission. When done right, they sit at the intersection of what readers care about and what advertisers value."

Like Chatelaine's awards programs and other editorial initiatives, Group Chat is built as a repeatable, scalable format, with potential to grow across YouTube, social, editorial and custom programs.

Group Chat for advertisers

Group Chat creates a premium environment for brands to connect with an influential audience of Canadian women. Launch partners include Eli Lilly Canada as the episode-one partner and IKEA Canada as the official furniture partner.

The consistent episode format creates natural opportunities for seamless brand integration across storytelling and discussions led by editors, experts and guests. Advertisers can participate through bespoke sponsorship packages designed to extend across video and audio content.

The first epsisodes

The inaugural episode sets the tone for the series. Maureen is joined by obesity specialist Dr. Yoni Freedhoff and television personality Tracy Moore for a candid conversation about the bias surrounding weight, dieting and obesity treatment—followed by a roundtable with Chatelaine's Chantal Braganza and Andréanne Dion on how media, including Chatelaine itself, has shaped these narratives over time.

In Episode 2, Alexandra Gater—home decor superstar and Spring 2026 guest editor of Chatelaine—joins Maureen to discuss her journey from Chatelaine home editor to YouTube DIY phenomenon. Executive editor Erica Lenti and senior style editor Andréanne Dion also join the chat to share their earliest decor memories (and regrets), and offer advice on decorating a shared space with a partner.
