70 years of innovating in communications

Since 1956, SJC has helped clients communicate through changing technologies, channels and audiences.

What began as a small letterpress operation in a Toronto basement has grown into one of Canada’s leading communications companies, spanning print, content, media and technology.

Across every decade, one thing has remained constant: a commitment to innovation, quality, and helping our clients connect in meaningful ways.

1950s–1980s

Building the Foundation of Print Communications

St. Joseph began with a single letterpress in the basement of our founder’s home. In those early days, communication was personal and tactile, from business cards to wedding invitations.

As demand grew, so did our capabilities. We expanded into offset printing, invested in new technologies, and scaled into large commercial print production. By the 1980s, St. Joseph had established itself as a trusted partner for high-quality communications at scale.

🟢 1990s–2000s

Expanding Creative Capabilities and National Reach

As our clients’ needs evolved, so did we. St. Joseph expanded beyond print into creative services, photography, and design, helping brands tell more complete and compelling stories.

Through key acquisitions, including Canada Communication Group, we grew into a national organization with a strong presence across the country.

This era marked a shift from production to integrated communications, combining strategy, creative, and execution.

Entering Media and Content

Recognizing the growing importance of content and audience engagement, St. Joseph expanded into media and publishing.

With the acquisition of Key Media and other properties, we became a leading publisher of some of Canada’s most recognized titles, including Toronto Life, FASHION, and more.

This marked a significant evolution, from producing communications to owning and shaping the platforms that deliver them.

Adapting to Digital and Audience-First Communication

As digital transformed how people consume content, St. Joseph continued to evolve.

We expanded into digital platforms, launched new content capabilities, and adopted a brand-as-publisher approach to help clients engage audiences in more meaningful ways.

This era reinforced our role not just as a producer of content, but as a strategic partner in how brands connect with their audiences.

With the acquisition of Assembly Digital, we expanded our capabilities in data, audience growth, and digital media technology.

In 2025, we launched Content Factori, an AI-powered platform designed to help clients create, scale, and optimize content more efficiently, building on decades of retail, media, and content expertise.
