Production Manager / Head of Production

Summary:

The Production manager is directly responsible for overseeing all aspects of planning, tracking and managing workflow processes from the initial briefing stage through to customer delivery. This role will lead a team of Project Managers and will be responsible for contributing to the planning, development, implementation, and analysis of all client initiatives. Drawing from experience and business acumen the Manager, Production Planning will consult with the management team in order to make recommendations to the Director, Project Management that will positively impact overall company results and the bottom line (ROI, cost savings). Coordinate workflow across all departments, execute special projects as assigned and develops and executes own work plans and production schedules under limited direction. Works to streamline processes, and explore new methodologies. At all times will assist in building and strengthening the relationship with the Client.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the production of all accounts / projects throughout briefing, research, planning and production stages
  • Work closely with the internal management team to improve production processes, maximize technology and ensure departments are working in synergy in order to meet all deadlines
  • Accurately forecast and manage departmental annual operations budget
  • Leads and collaborates with Project Managers to create and maintain detailed schedules and tracking reports, custom and specific to each project
  • Communicate short and long term production requirements to both internal and external customers
  • Update job specifications throughout projects as variables are defined
  • Facilitate production and operation meetings and liaise with all internal departments as required throughout the production schedule
  • Source and coordinate required outsource services and vendors (i.e. translation services, freelancers)
  • Facilitate post project meetings, initiate documentation that identifies successes, issues and recommended resolution
  • Manages project budgets and ensures the Director, Production and Account Management are aware of out of scope requests that will result in additional costs
  • Successfully recruits, selects, hires and develops Project Management team members

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must have 8+ years demonstrating print production, project management or marketing campaigns within a pre-press production environment
  • Minimum 5 years in a management function
  • Graphic Communications Management diploma or certification or equivalent experience is required
  • Project Management diploma or certification is considered an strong asset
  • Sales or Account Management experience is considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of design programs (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro)
  • Working knowledge of web-based soft-proofing software is considered an asset
  • Able to work on a MAC and PC platform
  • Ability to create planning and work back schedules
  • Experience in managing large print volume projects and complex projects
  • Must be extremely detail oriented, accurate and efficient
  • Effective management of multiple concurrent projects against aggressive timelines without compromising accuracy or quality
  • Strong technical knowledge of printing techniques, pre-press workflow, photography studio operations, digital asset management and creative practices
  • Superb project management and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to develop and mentor a team
  • Strong strategic thinker with problem-solving skills
  • Customer focused with excellent client relationship skills
  • Self starter, able to work under little supervision
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Clearly presents projects, plans, status and requirements to appropriate audiences.
  • Proven ability to develop, manage and track departmental budget
