Summary:
St. Joseph Communications is Canada’s largest privately owned communications company with three integrated platforms in Content, Print and Media. The Finance Manager is accountable for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all activities associated with the accounting function. The Finance Manager is responsible for the preparation of divisional financial results for multi-subsidiary and multiple business unit operations, as well as assisting with monthly financial forecasts and annual financial budgets. This position will provide assistance to finance staff as well as business operational staff while supporting the Controller and Senior Management.
In this role you will perform certain key responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Preparation and review of divisional monthly financial statements ensuring accuracy of expenses and revenue recognition for multiple business units.
- Evaluation of financial performance by analyzing monthly financial statements and reporting on variances, intersecting with business operations team members as required.
- Maintains and reviews balance sheet reconciliations, and other general ledger accounts.
Forecasting & Budgeting
- Coordinates and assists management with the preparation of monthly financial forecasts across multiple business units.
- Provides assistance based on operational management requests for further analysis.
- Coordinates and assists management with the preparation of annual financial budgets.
Compliance
- Facilitates the external financial audit by managing audit requests, inquiries and discussions while serving as a liason to external auditors
- Prepares bank financing compliance reports, including monthly Borrowing Base
- Prepares Government Grant applications and various Government surveys
Management
- Provides support to accounting staff and training in day-to-day accounting functions
- Resolves accounting issues across all accounting and business operations areas
- Provides backup support to cover accounting analyst roles and vacancies
- Assists Controller and Senior Management with special projects as required
And a bit about yourself:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA a plus
- 5-8 years of experience in accounting and/or financial analysis
- Excellent business judgment, analytical and decision-making skills
- Strong demonstrated use of Excel, Netsuite ERP software experience preferred
- Ability to work with others as a team and independently, self-starter
