We’re all concerned about the environment and the impact we have on it. At St. Joseph Communications, we’re always looking for ways to reduce energy, replenish what we use, cut down on waste and employ more environmentally friendly products and processes. We’re proud to say that we’ve consistently been a leader in the green initiatives that we depend on for our business and quality of life. Here are some examples of our current environmental work.

St. Joseph Communications created this unique reforestation program in 1990. Working with Scouts Canada, we support the planting of seedlings on behalf of our customers and for the benefit of us all. It’s an ideal partnership since Scouts Canada has been active in reforesting our country since the 1920s. Scouts provide young people with the hands-on opportunity to practice forestry, sustainable use of natural resources and the reclaiming of waste areas.
Partners in Growth® is a four-time winner in the Environmental Printing Awards’ Community Involvement category.
In 2005, our Ottawa facility became certified by the Environmental Choice Program – Environment Canada’s eco-labeling program. This facility meets ECP certification requirements for recycling and waste disposal. In 2008, St. Joseph’s print facilities added Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certifications to our existing Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Selecting an FSC, PEFC or SFI certified paper is a way for our customers to demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility. We are pleased to give our customers the broadest selection of environmentally friendly paper options.
Ancient Forest Friendly™ paper is 100% post-consumer recycled. This means that no trees are consumed, and the manufacturing process is totally chlorine free. Any virgin tree fiber is FSC-certified. We’re pleased to live what we believe:

St. Joseph Communications is an industry leader in environmental stewardship, with a long-standing track record. Our original Toronto print facility was built from the ground up to be environmentally friendly, including a closed-loop system for cooling water that requires no city water; drainage systems that do not enter the municipal sewer system; the use of vegetable-based ink; and the ability to destroy up to 99% of volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutants with a Megtec CleanSwitch™ Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO).
As part of our annual Values in Action Volunteer Days, our associates and family members help plant hundreds of trees in our communities in Toronto and Ottawa every year.
