Values in Action Volunteer Day
On May 13 and 15, 2008, hundreds of our associates across Canada worked together to give back to their communities. Collectively donating thousands of hours across two days, we worked with multiple organizations including Scouts Canada, Habitat for Humanity, the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and the St. Joe’s Women’s Centre in Ottawa. Projects ranged from planting trees and sprucing up gardens to playing basketball with a group of students living with mental illness and raising awareness for an upcoming cancer fundraiser.

Our Volunteer Day initiative began in 2006. When deciding how to involve associates in our 50th anniversary celebrations, volunteering in our communities seemed like the perfect choice. Commitment to the community is an important part of St. Joseph's 50-year history. When our founder, Gaetano Gagliano, started his basement letterpress operation in 1956, he had a growing family to support. From the very beginning, he thought of making a better life not only for his family, but the community at large. He established this as one of the company's Values and Guiding Principles.
Volunteer Day provides associates with the opportunity to work together and put our “values in action” by giving back to the community.
